¿Donde Esta Robin? As you can probably
tell from the exotic title to this
email, we are in Mexico and have been for about a
month now. I bloody hate tequila!
Just to make you jealous and piss you off maybe, we
are actually in the Yucatan Peninsula, about an hour
south of Cancun in a place called Playa Del Carmen. We
were in Cancun for three days, playing about on white flour-like sand,
splashing about in the turquoise CurryBean sea and soaking up the..... .....
pi&%ing rain.
Yes, we would have faired better getting about the town in our inflfatable
canoe rather than the van, the roads were like rivers. It did not take
away any of the allure
of the place and anyway we made up for the weather in the bars. We had a
free bar all
night on Saturday for only 250 pesos, about 15 quid. I got sloshed.
Where have I been since you were last treated to an
update?
Well from San Diego we went into Mexico and debated
whether to go down Baja California or mainland Mexico.
We opted for the cheaper option of the mainland and
although northern Mexico is sh$%, it was lucky we did
as there was a hurricane where we would have been
otherwise.
In Mexico we have been to:
Alamos - home of the Mexican Jumping bean and yes I
did buy some.
Mazatlan
Puerto Vallarta
Acapulco
Morelia & Guanajuato - two amazing colonial cities.
Guadalajara
Tequila - the town, urghhhh!
Mexico City
Teotihuacan - ancient pre-Aztec city, amazing.
Puebla
Gulf of Mexico
Campeche
Chichen Itza - one of the best preserved Mayan cities.
Cancun - paradise.
Where now?
Well actually we dont really know. We cant take the
van into Central America without a lot of hassle and
as we would like to get some money back on the van.
Mike, I or both of us are going to have to drive it
back to Canada. At this moment in time, I dont know
where we are going, but the short term agenda is to
cruise down the CurryBean coastline and then head for
the Mayan temples in the jungle at Palenque. From
their we are going to see the southern Pacific coast
and then up to Oaxaca and then back into the US.
Well, I need to go and sign up for a snorkelling tour
tomorrow that will take us out to the second largest
reef in the world. Did I mention the turquoise sea and
white flour-like sand?
